Oliver Nelson: “Stolen Moments”

12 Jan

Oliver Nelson got his big break with the great Louis Jordan’s band in 1950, then went to college and into the service. At Washington University in St. Louis, he would eat in his car rather than the segregated dining halls. Moved to L.A. to work for TV (Ironsides). Died far too young at 43 in 1975. Said fellow saxophonist Kenny Berger: “His personal and artistic integrity was reflected in everything he did.”
